Learning Support & Intervention Services

Internal Support Services

The Lodge- From September 2022 we have our brand new internal support department for pupils. Called "The Lodge", Mrs Hancock will be supporting pupils who need extra educational or emotional support in certain lessons.

Intervention work - At Watermill School we have a number of trained support staff who work 1 to 1 with pupils to support them with additional learning.

Family Support Workers - At Watermill School we have 2 Family Support Workers, Mrs Price and Miss Walker who can support pupils and families. Their work includes (but is not limited to) checking on pupils well being, attending safeguarding meetings, completing forms with parents.

Family Support Group - Mrs Price supports the running of the school's Family Support Group. This is held every Wednesday 10am- 12pm.

External Support Services

Speech Therapy - We have a dedicated NHS Speech & Language Therapist, who visits school regularly; pupils have individual sessions with staff who work with pupils on their individual programmes set by therapists.

Physiotherapy- We have a team of physiotherapists and assistants who come to school each week to work with our pupils who require this support. They create individual plans for pupils that class staff deliver. They check on pupil progress to physio targets. The physio team also support with maintenance of some the equipment pupils use.

Hearing and Visual Impairment (HI & VI) - For pupils with these needs, teachers with specialisms in HI and VI come into the school regularly to check pupil progress, make recommendations for class teachers to follow and to monitor changes.

Counselling- In school we have access to support from trained members of staff from the Mental Health Support Team. These staff come in fortnightly to help pupils who may need extra support emotionally. Referrals to this service are made through school staff.
