Head Lice

Dear Parents,

Every term, every school will have at least one case of a child with head lice. Head lice are an established part of school life as children spend so much time together; it is very easy for them to spread.

The best way to fight them is to check your child’s hair every week at home. Do this when your child’s hair is wet with a fine tooth comb.

Where to look:

  • Close to the scalp
  • Behind the ears
  • The back of the neck
  • The top of the head
  • Under the fringe

Don’t worry. Head lice are a normal part of life and nothing to be embarrassed about. If you find live lice then you will now need to treat them:

  • Lotions are free as part of the Pharmacy First scheme in Stoke-On-Trent; lots of chemists take part in this scheme. Please ask.
  • Wet combing with conditioner.
  • Herbal remedies and alternative treatments.

Don’t forget if you find live lice then take a peek at ALL the family, including yourself.

If you want further advice and support then give me a call at school or take a look at the following websites: www.onceaweektakeapeek.com or www.nits.net/bugbusting.
