Primary Pathway 3

Primary Pathway 3

Our Primary Pathway 3 units follow ideas from STEM Learning, the topics across the three strands of science, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, have been broken down into smaller units to adapt the needs of our pupils and topics that have been previously taught in Primary Pathway 2, have been refined to further develop the knowledge and skills of the older pupils.

Each unit has a contextual focus so that children learn in a practical, investigative and purposeful environment. Each unit has a variety of knowledge and skills based lessons with great web-links and books. Stories such as Charlotte’s Web, Goodnight Mr Tom and Kensuke’s Kingdom have great scientific links that will help hook and engage the pupils within a new topic. Charlotte’s Web has scientific links when learning about Living Things, Goodnight Mr Tom has links to Electricity and Kenuke’s Kingdom has significant links to Materials and Their Properties.

Pupils will continue to learn about Rocks, Materials and States of Matter in Chemistry. They will also continue to develop their knowledge and skills in the Physics units: Forces, Electricity and Light alongside a new topic, Earth and Space.

Although these units have been previously taught in Pathway 2, the pupils will engage within more advanced scientific experiments that include a more complex scientific enquiry questions and equipment. This will not only secure their knowledge in the topics, but prepare them for the Secondary Pathways.

Pupils will develop their understanding of the Biology units, they will learn more about The Human Body including Personal Health, Hygiene and Nutrition. They will further extend their understanding of Habitats, Food Chains and Plants. They will be given wider opportunities to explore and learn within a variety of different outdoor environments. The children will also begin to learn about Evolution and Inheritance. This unit will open up a lot of research and writing opportunities.

To enable our Primary Science Curriculum meets the needs of the children, a lot of our supporting resources are STEM Learning, BBC Learning Clips and PurpleMash.
